Tennis - Make sure you are breathing when you are playing tennis

Make sure you are breathing when you are playing tennis.

A cardinal sin when playing tennis is holding your breath when making contact or holding your breath throughout the entire point.

When we hold our breath, our bodies will get tight, will get tense and will get tired much quicker than if we’re breathing properly. You will be struggling on long points. It will be like playing tennis under water.

If you are holding your breath when making contact, your body will be tight - and it will translate to worst shots. You will not be hitting with maximum power or maximum spin.

The ideal way to breathe on court is to inhale when preparing for your shot and exhale prior to and during the contact point.

By doing this, you’ll help keep the muscles relaxed but you’ll also have more energy on court and be able to play at a higher level for longer.
